CULTURAL INFORMATION


  • MUSIC AND DANCES


Cajamarca’s music and dances are related to party, community work, religious feeling, pasturage, time of break and collective recreation.
The typical instrument is the famous “clarin”, this is difficult to use in other parts of world. This instrument measured 3 meters and is made by bamboo, at one end has a gourd.
The “clarín” used in all festivities.






Nowadays, the most popular dances in Cajarmarca are Chunchu and Pallas. Both have to be danced in the last days of november, the rest of coreography expresions has disappeared or maybe sometimes has to appeared.
Chunchu´s Dance: This dance is very recognized in peruvian territory. In a lot of pictures Chunchu is appreciated  by feather ornaments in the head and seed rattles in the calves.
Pallas´s Dance: this dance is formed by only girls. It´s recognized in north Ande, also is recognized because girls are singing. Pallas dance its coreography in religious parties and christmas.




  • TYPICAL COSTUMES

FOR MEN: they wear an embroidered jacked, white shirt and black pants with side slits, colorful “poncho” and a hat.

FOR WOMEN: they wear a hat, a colorful shirt and many longs skirt, in their hair used to do braiding.
Nowadays people in downtown used different clothes like a jean, t-shirts, sweaters, etc…




  • SPORT

The soccer is practiced in this city, the professionally team is the UTC of Cajamarca; this sport is practiced in the HEROES DE SAN RAMON stadium.


  • FESTIVITIES

The Carnival of Cajamarca – February - March

The carnival of Cajamarca is the most popular celebration, where everybody is prepared to present different shows.
People organized a great parade, and many people wear a fancies dresses.
In the streets, you can see a lot of decoration with serpentines, globes and is typical to play with water, too.
At night, it usually choose a queen of carnival.





Crossings parade- March- April

This is a religious festivity to celebrate in down Porcon, the main day is the Sunday of Palms.
In the parade you can see a lot of crossings decorated with pictures and mirrors.






Fongal Fair –july 24-31

In this fair you can find a lot of typical products in sale and appreciate the crafts. In those days there are performed competitions about horses of “paso”.
